A new community grants scheme launched by Sutton Coldfield Charitable Trust (SCCT) aims to create a brighter future for local people – by helping them to protect the environment.

SCCT has launched its ‘Green Ideas’ grants, to support local community groups who want to undertake small environmental projects and improvements.
The fund will enable organisations to apply for grants of up to and including £1,000 for initiatives that will make a positive difference to the local environment.
This could include things such as installing LED lighting, creating recycling points, setting up electric vehicle recharging stations and making a positive difference to local green spaces, nature and wildlife.
SCCT’s Grants Manager Clare Haines said: “The advancement of environmental protection or improvement is one of the Trust’s pillars of support, and this new fund provides an opportunity to reaffirm this priority.
“The idea is to provide small grants of up and including £1,000 to all kinds of groups and organisations in Sutton, which will help them make an environmental difference.
“We are looking forward to seeing the Green Ideas that the community come up with.
“The fund is open until the 30 September 2026 or until all the ringfenced money has been awarded.”
SCCT has funded major sustainable and environmental projects in recent years, from helping to rebuild the popular boardwalk at New Hall Valley to funding groups like EcoGrow CIC.
This new fund, however, aims to reach out to the broad community and enable more environmental projects.
Receiving a grant from the new fund, which is open to both new and existing applicants, will not affect an organisation’s eligibility under the Trust’s three-year rule for future funding applications. In addition, larger funding applications will still be accepted from organisations throughout the year, based on need and impact.
