The provision of accommodation and other benefits for elderly residents of Sutton Coldfield is the primary focus of the Trustees’ work and they are committed to making Almshouses available for older people who live in the town. They believe that the special nature of their homes makes them as relevant today as in the past.

There are 46 recently refubished properties at Lingard House in Walmley. Each property has:

• double bedroom, carpeted
• living room, carpeted
• kitchen
• level access wet room or shower
• gas central heating
• storage space
• a 24 hour emergency call system connected to two resident Wardens during the day and a Monitoring Centre overnight

The site has attractive, well-maintained gardens and a range of communal areas and activity rooms including:

• A newly refurbished communal lounge with a large screen plasma TV
• A heated conservatory overlooking the attractive gardens
• Laundry room
• Computer suite with broadband connection exclusively for residents' use
• Games room with full sized snooker table, darts board and card tables
• Arts and Craft room ideal for sewing, painting, card making etc.
• On-site Wardens offering personal support and assistance
• Coffee mornings, lunches, Extend classes and many other social events
• Good access and facilities for people with mobility problems
• Also on site, is a comfortable and well appointed Guest Room (charges apply).

Occupants of the Almshouses benefit in terms of health and well-being from the pleasant, quiet and supportive environment afforded to them. They appreciate their independence, but also value the assistance and concern for their welfare which they receive. There is a very strong community spirit at Lingard House and an ever-increasing range of social activities are available throughout the year to residents, who also benefit from the amenities afforded to them at nearby Walmley Village.

When vacancies occur, these are advertised in Doctors’ Surgeries, Health and Church Centres, the Neighbourhood Office and Community Centres. The Trustees appoint residents who live in needy circumstances and who have resided in Sutton Coldfield for a reasonable time.
